Being found in Google and AI search: what actually helps a manufacturer
Buyers search for suppliers in Google, and more and more of them ask AI assistants. This is what makes a factory easier to find and easier to recommend, and what is a waste of money.
Many buyers start looking for a new supplier with a search. Some type into Google, others ask an AI assistant, for example: “Find porcelain mug manufacturers in China that accept small orders.” Both read the open web: factory websites, trade-fair listings, directories and marketplaces.
There is no trick, and nobody can guarantee you a place at the top. But some work clearly helps a factory get found.
How buyers search
Buyers rarely search for a company name they do not know. They search for a product and a need: “stoneware mugs wholesale”, “porcelain dinnerware for hotels”, “ceramic lamp base manufacturer”.
For many of these searches, the first results are marketplaces and directories. A factory’s own page can appear when it answers that exact search better than a listing does.
1. A buyer FAQ with real answers
Write one page that answers the questions buyers ask before they contact you: minimum order quantity, lead time, samples and what they cost, the certificates and test reports you actually have, packaging options, payment terms, and the port you ship from.
Use your real numbers, in plain sentences. For example: the minimum order per design and per colour, and how the lead time changes in the busy season. Search engines and AI assistants use pages like this to answer buyers’ questions directly. A vague page gives them nothing to quote.
2. One page for each product and use
A single long list of all your products rarely matches what a buyer types. Pages that match how buyers search work better: one product type for one kind of buyer or one use. For example “porcelain dinnerware for restaurants”, “ceramic planters for garden centres” or “lamp bases for lighting brands”.
Each page needs real photos, sizes, materials, the minimum order and a clear way to send an enquiry. Start with your three most important products.
3. The same facts everywhere
Your company name, address, the year you started, the size of your factory and your certificates should be the same on your website, LinkedIn, marketplace profiles, trade-fair listings and directories.
AI assistants combine many sources. When the numbers do not match, your factory looks less reliable, to people and to software. Keep one fact sheet and update every listing from it.
4. Mentions on other websites
What other websites say about you matters, often more than small changes on your own site. Make sure your entry is complete wherever buyers look for suppliers: trade-fair exhibitor lists, industry directories, association member lists. Each entry should describe correctly what you make, and link to your website.
Reviews help too, if they are real. Ask all your customers for a review where they can leave one, not only the happy ones. Never buy reviews.
5. The technical basics
- A domain of your own, in your company’s name. Western buyers expect a .com address.
- Pages that load quickly outside China, and that your own team can still open inside China.
- Text as real text, not inside images, so that search engines can read it and browsers can translate it.
- A clear title on every page, and a sitemap so that search engines find all pages.
- English that someone who writes English well has checked.
What does not help
- Bought links and fake reviews. They can push your site down in the results, and they damage trust when a buyer notices.
- Special files and markup as a shortcut. Google says that no special file or markup is needed to appear in its AI features. Structured data can help search engines read your facts, but it does not replace a clear page.
- Anyone who guarantees a ranking. Nobody can promise a place on the first page of Google or in an AI answer.
Where to start
- Write down your real facts once, in one fact sheet.
- Build the buyer FAQ page.
- Choose three products and the buyers who use them, and make one page for each.
- Complete your listings on trade-fair and directory websites.
- Open your website on a phone, inside and outside China.
This is how we approach websites for factories: we start from the questions buyers ask. We never promise rankings.
